Michele Smith Announces Run for 43rd Ward Alderman
With the Backing of Congressman Danny Davis, Commissioner Debra Shore, Former Alderman Marty Oberman, Forrest Claypool, David Hoffman and Raja Krishnamoorthi
Thursday, September 23
10:30 am
Palmer House Hotel - Madison Room
17 E. Monroe Street
“The City Council needs as many independent voices as possible, which is why I am endorsing Michele Smith for 43rd Ward Alderman. I am confident that she will be a strong and fresh advocate for reform. She is an experienced, former federal prosecutor who can be trusted to make smart and ethical choices for her constituents and the City. During this time of change in City government, adding Michele to the City Council would be a big step in the right direction.” David Hoffman, former Inspector General.
Since being elected Democratic Committeeman of the 43rd Ward in February 2008, Smith has accomplished many things beyond the scope of a Committeeman’s designated responsibility to run elections. Adhering to a mission of educating and informing the voters of the 43rd Ward, she was able to introduce candidates for office, as well as elected officials, directly to the voters more than any other ward organization.
Her platform of transparency and accountability stands in stark contrast to what has been the “business as usual” politics of the 43rd ward. Her belief that those most directly affected should have the loudest voice in neighborhood issues can bring change and genuine community involvement to a ward teeming with development issues and potential zoning changes.
“With more than a million square feet of vacant retail space and major developments looming, residents are concerned,” says Michele Smith. “The time has come for real leadership. I can provide that leadership.”
